"Providing physical, emotional, social, and financial comfort is our primary goal in an atmosphere of
intensive caring, not intensive care."

Our Philosophy

Hospice Chautauqua County, in partnership with the medical community and other health-related agencies, provides physical, psychosocial and spiritual end-of-life support to terminally ill patients and their families to facilitate "dying well" in an environment of their own choosing. These services extend beyond the patient's death to bereavement support for grieving loved ones.

We believe that:

  • Dying is the natural conclusion to the life cycle.
  • Each individual has the right to die free from distressing symptoms.
  • Every terminally ill patient and their family has the right to choose where they will die.
  • The majority of people wish to die at home in the presence and care of their loved ones.
  • End-of-life care should focus on "quality" over "quantity" and "palliation" over "cure."
  • Each patient/family has the right to control what happens to them as they approach the end of life.
  • An increased understanding of death, dying, grief and loss by the Chautauqua County community will help to promote "dying well" for all.
